For a very long time, my activity behind the camera has purely been a means of information-gathering to support ideas for art projects, be they printmaking or ceramics-based. In more recent years, I have decided to play with different photographic equipment and techniques to create an end product. The purchase of an old 1924 Model F Box Brownie camera and a cyanotype printing kit has allowed me to indulge in some seriously analogue printing experiments. My continued use of photography was also encouraged during my Fine Arts MA course, and as a result contributed to my final MA show in 2025.
During late December of the same year, I was lucky to stumble across some interesting landscape photo opportunities during a day walking over the Cotswold Hills between Bristol and Chippenham. This was following a period of heavy rain with a low winter sun emerging from between the fast-moving clouds.

I always like the dramatic effects that can be created by black and white photography, be it via an old film camera or through post-processing using image manipulation software. I also find it helps to represent the rural landscape as an often harsh as opposed to an overly-romanticised environment.
I was later, delighted to have one of the above photographs (After the Rain) selected for the inaugural show by the Gloucestershire Photography Network exhibition named ‘Under This Sky’ at the Tetbury Goods Shed Arts Centre.
This exhibition runs from Wednesday 28th October through to 20th December 2026.
